Ben Nicholson 02 – No Title

His White Relief was influenced by the sculptures of his partner, Barbara Hepworth, and Jean Arp, who was famous in Paris at that time.

On the other hand, Mondrian’s use of the compass influenced the precision of his lines and circles. (In the beginning, his lines were not precise due to handwriting.)

The combination of sculpture and painting, and the precision of squares and circles, resulted in the creation of the White Relief series.
