Miyajima’s concept is that: “it keeps changing”, “it relates to everything”, and “it lasts forever”. Since the mid-1980s, he has been working mainly on installations and sculptures using digital counters with LEDs that change the numbers from 1 to 9. The counters do not display zero. Their flicker speed is not constant but varies from one LED to another. These show the continuity, eternity and relationship of time and the human life cycle a, as the concept suggests,

In “Unstable time”, the number of flickering LEDs decreased from 9 to 1 or increased from 1 to 9, depending on the work. It could mean that we are approaching death from the moment of birth (9 to 1) or that we are growing old physically (1 to 9).

“Keep Changing (Mondrian)” is a geometric composition with multiple primary colours, which seems to have been intended as a Mondrain composition.
